7Dec2022 - crlazlo meanderings 2 is now 2.1 - I will continue to use it as a preview/workspace for my FB posts, but I will also start organizing the many photos from my retirement years, and also start a journal/memories thing. That's the plan anyway.

One of the main reasons I traveled to Japan was their artist/craft tradition of blending utility with beauty. Just like the fence gate (photo #4 in my link post) at the Japanese Garden in the Arboretum, something ordinary is made beautiful by using jute twine to lash the bamboo strips together...

Day 1 of what will be the largest purge of my/our life since I had that little house in Fremont. I remember whittling down to whatever I could get into "Grindybolts", my old Ford Econoline van. Me and my trusty trailer were waiting in line at the dump around 8:25 this morning with our first load. Now a process begins of separating Value Viilage, the dump, reluctant 'keepers', etc. I just completed my second trailer trip to the Tukwila Community Center with 20 years worth of 'monster' TVs, a dead pressure cooker, some scrap metal, etc for recycling.  Feels good...

It looks a lot nicer today than when I lived there back in the late 70s?

My Summer nice weather projects are winding down, and I'm slowly returning to my photo editing routine. These are three edits I just finished, from a walk by the Black River in late July.

The photo below was a break-through for me in that I've always liked looking down towards the water through the tangles of branches, shadows and leaves, but I could never capture what I was seeing with my eyes. Now I can, with my new telephoto lens of all things! I've always been a learn-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kind of artist, and I was just playing around. I've also discovered some cool depth of field things I can achieve with the telephoto. And I don't have to read more how-to-dos or monkey around with different settings...

Cebu and photography

10 questions with Cebuano photographer Nathan Archival | Sun.Star
"IN A city where a DSLR camera is as common as an ID lanyard, meeting a good photographer is not hard. Cebuanos are skilled and artistic after all. But Nathan Archival is not your average photographer. His favorite model is Cebu..."

I am not a fan of proselytizing, BUT a simple meditation every day is an effortless way to smooth the path you're walking down...

Pema Chodron
Heart Advice of the week:
THE PATH OF PAUSING
"The primary focus of this path of choosing wisely, of this training to de-escalate aggression, is learning to stay present. Pausing very briefly, frequently throughout the day, is an almost effortless way to do this. For just a few seconds we can be right here. Meditation is another way to train in learning to stay, or, as one student put it more accurately, learning to come back, to return to being present over and over again. The truth is, anyone who’s ever tried meditation learns really quickly that we are almost never fully present. I remember when I was first given meditation instruction. It sounds so simple: Just sit down, get comfortable, and bring light awareness to your breath. When your mind wanders, gently come back and stay present with your breath. I thought, “This will be easy.” Then someone hit a gong to begin and I tried it. What I found was that I wasn’t present with a single breath until they hit the gong again to end the session. I had spent the whole time lost in thought."
From her book Taking The Leap

Thich Nhat Hanh
“Vous ne pouvez pas transmettre la sagesse et la vision profonde à une autre personne. La graine est déjà là. Un bon enseignant touche la graine, lui permet de s’éveiller, de germer et de grandir”
“You cannot transmit wisdom or insight to someone else – the seed is already there. A good teacher is someone who touches that seed so it can wake up, sprout and grow.”

from my box-making days...

This walnut box with the small boxes inside was a barter I made with a photographer friend of mine. In exchange for the photos and prints of my boxes, I made the large box with a variety of small boxes inside for her collection of "charms".
