7Dec2022 - crlazlo meanderings 2 is now 2.1 - I will continue to use it as a preview/workspace for my FB posts, but I will also start organizing the many photos from my retirement years, and also start a journal/memories thing. That's the plan anyway.

I love my schwinn bicycle! I did a nice loop ride yesterday, north down the GR Trail and along 99 to South Park, over the bridge and back south along Boeing Field. I stopped by the tall (20'+) "Shrimp" like sculpture just East of the S Pk bridge. The skulls reminded me of JR's recent posts.

I forgot how much I enjoy the editing part of photo taking. These two shots were from a walk in Blaine last July.
One reason I think I stopped walking for awhile there was an encounter I had on the Green River Trail here in Tukwila. I saw this guy emerging from some bushes along the trail that was isolated a bit, halfway between two roads, with the river on one side and a high concrete barrier on the other side. I kept walking, and just as I was passing him, he blocked my path with his bicycle and accused me of "stalking" him. His eyes were scary, and he said "I should just run you over right now..." As he moved towards me, I lifted up my Canon camera to defend myself. I remember thinking to myself, "Damn! I don't want to spend money on a new camera!" After a bizarre conversation that lasted 5 or 6 minutes, we did a little walking dance down the path with me trying to walk away, and he doing these little charges with his bike. He finally passed me by, and I continued my walk with my heart beating double time. While part of me is sad about his homeless and mental state situation, that episode scared the crap out of me! I now have a pepper spray thingy, and I'm walking again and trying to stay in "safer" areas. Also, I'm riding my bicycle more.

some old photos from my box-making days in the 70s and early 80s...

--------------------------------------------------------
This is sort of a return to my roots? I've been playing with some wooden "pill box" ideas recently, approximately 3 to 5" in length. The biggest difference between now and my crlazlo2 box-making days (70s and early 80s) is that I don't have to pay the rent and buy food with them. I'm enjoying the process more now, the carving, the sanding and oiling, the bite of my Xacto knives in the wood and seeing the grains come to life when I oil them. A lot of experimenting, re-familiarizing myself with wood. The only power tools I'm using are a 10" band saw and a small belt sander. I'm using mostly hand tools and Xacto blades, and I'm planning on spending more time on individual pieces. Will post more later...

Although I'm looking forward to doing more detailed carvings, I love the natural grains, patterns and colors of wood...
