I started this carving a month or two back, when my laptop overheated during one of my photo editing sessions. It was a 9 3/4" tray made out of Monkey Pod wood that I had sitting on my desk. I wanted to keep working, so I picked it up and started carving. I really enjoy working with my hands again, and Monkey Pod, a hardwood tree native to Southeast Asia is a good carving wood. My favorite xActo knife blades are the #s 16 and 11. They didn't have any of the smaller trays when I went shopping yesterday, so I got the 12" one shown here. I picked up a few other pieces as well, from a tourist section at the mall. Kiln dried, and nice sizes that don't require any more tool purchases, etc.

I'll be walking along the Sammamish River again in 3 weeks or so. These shot were taken from the Landing Park, across the street from downtown Bothell WA, exactly one year ago today. Still a lot of green colors, but very different from these past 6 months in Cebu. More chartreuse greens here. From Wikipedia: Chartreuse, "also known as yellow-green, is a color between yellow and green. It was named because of its resemblance to the green color of a French liqueur called green chartreuse, introduced in 1764."

Sort of a "C" sunrise this morning, around 5:20am, looking to my N/NE. Having the sun rise behind us like this, if I get up early enough, I can watch the city lights in the darkness before that happens. One of my favorite things is to watch for car headlights flickering through the trees and darkness as they drive down from the mountains areas. The top right window is still missing. It was blown out by flying debris during Typhoon Odette, and like they say here, "why hurry?"

This was our sunset view through my window last night, from my computer desk upstairs. The sunsets here are at the top of my favorite things in Cebu list. Two memories of Typhoon Odette are the bent pipe on top of the Metrobank next door (it used to be straight), and the missing blue C of the Chong Hua Hospital. If I'm sitting here around 6pm, I like watching the lights of the traffic heading out of the Capitol area here (lower left), at the Rodriguez St and Rama Ave intersection. If I go downstairs in the middle of the night, I often stand by the front windows and I look at the nighttime city lights...

My new favorite church here in Cebu is the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral. There were a lot of choices for photos, but I liked the extraordinary lampposts outside the most! They are what drew me into the courtyard...

Ft San Pedro Pt 2

The statue, shot from the perimeter wall walkway, looks out over a side street. The warrior in battle garb is in the fort's small museum, and it reminded me of a Japanese Samurai. There's no interior lighting, and I didn't notice my reflection until I was editing these photos.

My first post of Ft San Pedro was on 28 January. It was closed, and the exterior shot is from that post. The other shots are from my visit yesterday. I got distracted right away by the plants and trees inside.

Water Patterns #2, more tropical waters images...

When we arrived here in early November, I often took photos while riding in a taxi or a bus with my iPhone, a refurbished iPhone SE. I hopped on Robinson's "Free Bus" ride to their Galleria Mall yesterday, and I clicked off these shots. It ended up being an election (May 9th) campaign shoot with all of the posters, even the old guy in his green campaign shirt: "Richard Yap" for Congressman. I liked all of the colors in his belongings, and I especially liked how he rigged up a kind of horn system on his cart.

I've always liked downtown buildings. These were in my FB Memories this morning, from this date 7 years ago, April 28, 2015. "I often go downtown (Seattle) early Sunday mornings to take photos of the buildings. I like the lines, the colors, the shadows, the reflections of other buildings in the windows..."
